Ingredients:

  • 350g flour
  • 45g sugar
  • 5g dry yeast
  • A pinch of salt
  • 1 egg
  • Vanilla sugar (to taste)
  • 240ml lukewarm milk
  • 80g chocolate chips
  • 40g softened butter
  • Nutella (as required)
  • 1 egg yolk (for brushing)
  • 2 tbsp milk (for brushing)

Directions:

  1. Dough Preparation:
    • In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, dry yeast, salt, and vanilla sugar.
    • Add the egg and lukewarm milk to the dry ingredients and mix until a soft dough forms.
    • Add the chocolate chips to the mixture and knead the dough for 5 minutes.
    • Incorporate the 40g of softened butter into the dough and knead for another 5 minutes until the dough is smooth and elastic.
  2. First Rise:
    • Cover the dough with a clean cloth and let it rest in a warm place for 2 hours or until it has doubled in size.
  3. Preparation of Nutella Filling:
    • Refrigerate the Nutella for 1 hour so it becomes firmer and easier to handle.
  4. Shaping the Buns:
    • Once the dough has risen, divide it into small portions.
    • Flatten each portion and add a spoonful of the chilled Nutella to the center.
    • Fold and shape the dough into buns, ensuring the Nutella is securely enclosed.
  5. Egg Wash:
    • In a small bowl, mix the egg yolk with 2 tablespoons of milk to create an egg wash.
    • Brush each bun with this mixture to give them a glossy finish upon baking.
  6. Baking:
    • Preheat your oven to 180ยฐC (350ยฐF).
    • Place the buns on a baking tray lined with parchment paper, ensuring they are spaced apart.
    • Bake in the preheated oven for approximately 12 minutes or until the buns are golden brown on top.
