Snoud el Sit

β€œSnoud el Sit” translates to β€œLady’s Arms” in English, and it’s a dessert that’s known for its unique shape resembling a lady’s arms wrapped in a sleeve.

Here’s a simplified recipe for Snoud el Sit:

Ingredients:

For the Dough:

2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
1/4 cup vegetable oil
1/4 cup powdered sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Pinch of salt
For the Filling:

1 cup finely ground pistachios or almonds
1/2 cup powdered sugar
1 tablespoon rose water (optional)
1 tablespoon orange blossom water (optional)
For the Syrup:

1 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup water
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1 tablespoon rose water or orange blossom water (optional)
Instructions:

Preheat your oven to 350Β°F (175Β°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

In a large bowl, mix together the melted butter, vegetable oil, powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt. Gradually add the flour and mix until a soft dough forms.

Divide the dough into small balls, about the size of a walnut.

Roll each ball of dough into a long rope, then flatten it slightly with your fingers or a rolling pin.

Combine the ground pistachios or almonds with powdered sugar and rose water or orange blossom water (if using) to make the filling.

Place a small amount of the filling along the length of each flattened dough rope, then roll it up to enclose the filling, shaping it into a curved cylinder resembling a lady’s arm.

Place the filled dough rolls on the prepared baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown.

While the Snoud el Sit is baking, prepare the syrup by combining the granulated sugar, water, lemon juice, and rose water or orange blossom water (if using) in a saucepan. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat and let it simmer for about 10 minutes, until slightly thickened.

Once the Snoud el Sit is done baking, remove it from the oven and immediately pour the hot syrup over the hot pastries, allowing them to soak up the syrup.

Let the Snoud el Sit cool completely before serving. Enjoy these delicious Arabic sweets with a cup of tea or coffee!

Note: You can customize the filling by using your favorite nuts or adding spices such as cinnamon or cardamom for extra flavor. Adjust the sweetness of the syrup according to your preference.
